Who wins in your opinion and why? I've been studying graphic card technology for a while here and have formed an opinion, curious as to what the forum thinks.

Seems to me like Nvidia is the leader. They take the stupid brute force (and hotter) approach but it seems to be working. On the downside they run hotter.

You've been studying GPUs and still think nvidia wins? wtf.

They run hotter because their die size to performance ratio is abysmal, they just make gigantic, expensive, inefficient chips. You could make an argument that their top end chip is better (even then, it's debatable; it's only better in performance), but of course that's <1% of their actual sales, for 99% of customers they're actually just inferior in every single way.

And even then, crossfiring 2 top end AMD cards will give you better performance, with better power/perf, price/perf, so you'd have to SLI 2 top end nvidia for nvidia to be "better" in any sense of the word.

I'll admit I'm out of the CPU/GPU loop by about a year so maybe nvidia made some massive turnaround in their architecture; don't think so though.
