The thing with Hustler is that he's as much a showman as anything else. At the times he sounds aggressive and mean, he's also tongue-in-cheek at the same time; he enjoys the hunt/combat. His arguments are less about rationally viewing all sides to reach the best view and more about just trying win the point and stop the opponent's arguments in their tracks... He's frustrating to debate due to his using as much tactical manuevering instead of global strategy. Shutting down the opponent is more important than reassessing and making better opinions. I usually don't bother, except to work on my debate skillz... because even if you catch him in something, he'll just pull a "No, you didn't -- nuh uh!" maneuver and just step out of it.

Yeah I agree. He plays his chosen role consistently well, and isn't always completely serious about it. That's why I don't vote for him to leave when he invariably ends up in the troll box. You don't always need people who can see all sides of the argument... variety is good. The only problem I have is that when he is on a posting spree, I get sick of it all fairly quickly. Haha. Eh, enough about Hustler - why am I talking about him?? Heh.

Well, when leaving central, to me it was more like a divorce --- divorces are always equable and easy.

But later on one rationalises 'What did I see in her ?', and peace of mind ensues.

One person said ( in a discussion of this nature - there are several threads about INTPc here ) that they saw INTPc as being a lot of "middle aged' types kvetching and wringing their hands/complaining about life in an angsty way. Actually there are very few "middle aged" folks on the site, unfortunately, IMO. Probably even fewer here, though, so that specific implication ( of the post ) aspect is certainly true. I guess it would depend on whether one saw late 20's and 30 somethings as being "middle aged" LOL

Thinking it over, it is actually somewhat accurate, since people don't typically live to be 110 years old, but...like 75 on average, last I heard. ( I know it's going up. ) So, "37" would be "middle aged". However, traditionally the term "middle aged" meant people in their 50's or even 60's, if they weren't hobbling around and still had mostly as sharp of a mind as they did as a younger person*, if not sharper. ( On a tangent, i just read that my diabetes medicine, Metformin, may have a side effect of delaying or attenuating/preventing Alzheimer's.

8 - Yes, I realize that "sharp" is relative, in terms of what was there from the beginning. ;-)

I hope so. Still have a bit of a distance to go until equilibrium is once again achieved.

Hey,

I'm looking for a community that's NOT full of a hundred bitter, middle-aged, miserable people who will generally respond with "clever" one-line insults or self-absorbed commentary to anything one posts.

I am an INTP, of course, but I'm frustrated at INTPc for

1) the infrequency of posts on actual, interesting topics,
2) the inadequacy of posts on actual, interesting topics, and
3) the entire "life sucks, but I'm too lazy to do anything about it, so bite my ass" vibe.

Will I find what I seek in this corner of the Internet, or is this a type thing?

Oh, also, greetings! :)

So wait.... INTPc sucks?? And here I've been a member of this Forum for about year thinking the grass was greener on the other side. Well thank you buzzkill!

You'll find all of that and more!

Cynicism and helplessness of every age, brought together into a voluptuous bouquet of self pity, watered by isolation and crumbling expectations!

I come here because the joy of everyday life is too overwhelming.

Welcome to the site.

I haven't been here for all that long, but I generally enjoy it. Never posted on INTPc, but I know what you mean - I took a look at their "High IQ" forum once... Never went back after that.

Yeah, that was kind of a joke.

We have a "High IQ" subforum too. If you can't see it, you're probably just not smart enough for it.

OR IS IT. :kilroy:

Hi..I just signed up here, I peeked over there too, but this one seemed a bit more interesting and less overwhelming. But yeah, I scanned a few threads and got some of the same vibe. A certain amount of joking and verbal play is cool, but when it dominates threads, its boring and annoying. Well, guess I will type and intro now.
