As you can see by my join date (not to mention post count, gah!), I'm not technically a new member. INTPf used to be my Internet-home, but then people were leaving and new people were coming and *gasp* changes!--I kind of ran away for a while. But today I was looking over some threads and realized how much I still love this place, so I decided to give it another shot.

In the time I've been away, I've been kinda (severely) depressed, changed gender identities multiple times, and got accepted into my dream college. Among other things, of course. Honestly, I may as well have started a new account because I feel a world away from "the old severus," but it seems a little dishonest to claim there's no connection.

So hello! I'm severus: 18, male, from Chicagoland USA. INTP, of course, and really fucking tired of being around SJs!

...See you all around the forum, then.

I think you were female the last time around. Interesting! How did you decide? Did you have a strong leaning towards one or are you just sort of trying them on?

Welcome back, and congratulations. On the depression too, since you're basically not allowed to post here if you haven't been through it. Heh.

wtf

Your either XX or XY.

Hopefully someday we can flip flop those little letters around as we please. Personally I would switch genders if I could do it on a genetic level.

Also strictly speaking it is not always XX or XY, there are quite a few that somewhere in between. Usually the doctors and parents make somewhat educated choice as to which gender to reinforce, sometimes that causes problems down the road.

And sometimes it is just that isn't clear to person at all. Gender identity is not very well understood from I've seen and doctors/therapists tend to treat gender identity that is not gender genetic as a disease rather than a symptom.

In any case welcome back, Severus. As to being miles from who you were, I tend to think that the journey is more of who we are than where we stand at any particular moment.

Hey, welcome back. :)

wtf
Your either XX or XY or XXY or XXXY or XYY or XYYY or XXX or X-... and then we get into androgen insensitives and various other permutations where biological gender does not match chromosomal phenotype.

Fixed. (Read a science book once in a while, will ya?)

Welcome back! I too get rather freaked out by the 'casualty rate" around here.

BTW - "dream college" my alma mater on the South Side?

Hello everyone!

Re: XX or XY--Felan and Jenny beat me to it. Gender has nothing to do with chromosomes, and even physical sex isn't a perfect match.

Cheese & others: I didn't get to decide, though it's not completely inaccurate to say I was trying ones on. Trying on labels, moreso. I guess you could say my perception of my gender changed, rather than my gender itself. Or maybe it's just fluid and fucking with me, who knows.

Da Blob--nope, it's on the other side of the country.

Welcome back, then. What sort of depression were you afflicted with?

Nothing diagnosed. Probably dysthymia, based on duration and lack of distinct "episodes."
