Has anyone seen this film? It is a Guy Ritchie production, starring Jason Statham. The whole film is quite introspective, metaphorical and mind boggling. Chess is a constant theme, weaved into the most complex confidence tricks. There is also a scene that makes no sense at all, where the whole films suddenly reverts to animation. I have read many theories regarding this film, ranging from Kaballa to it being a Fight Club rip-off. Guy Ritchie is very vague and evasive as to the film's meaning, and much is left to speculation.

Yes, I have watched the film 3 times. Not really because I liked it, more because I am both a masochist and wanted to understand the deeper meanings even if they end up being uninspired.

You cannot watch the film without knowing that Guy Ritchie was married to Madonna at the time this film was made and had been sucked into her religious world of Kabbalah. The movie is a head trip for sure. At the very least it has stunning cinematography. If you take the time to study some of Kabbalah's teachings you will start to understand the meanings of the film...

Is Mr. Green Mr. Gold? Makes sense at some times, then at others it does not.

If I understand correctly, Mr. Gold symbolises the ego, of wich Mr. Green must rid himself. There was some or other speech about ego in the creditless credits, but I haven't seen it yet.

A basic tenet of Kabbala is that God can be grasped better through deed (the fulfillment of mitzvot) than through meditation. Basically rid yourself of ego, and learn to give to others to be closer to God. (Or to be one with God... (Or to become GOD)

I other words, your EGO is your toughest opponent. (Mr. Gold as the EGO) Once you defeat your own mind, free yourself of thought, you become enlightened...
