I started out training horses and then I started breeding, raising and showing horses. The tail started wagging the dog really quick. And the pressure to succeed is enormus.Although it is less stressful in some ways than working for someone else. My best advice would be not to let the fear of failure control your decisions. I know it sounds like a no-brainer. But its different when its just you. My husband just started his own buisness and is FREAKING OUT because he is not producing what he thinks he should be. I havent heard any complaints from the financial backers but hes driving me nuts. says he didnt realize how much more stressful it is when someone is expecting you to produce a product. Apperently to him it was easier when it was just our money. and I understand this to a point. Once you're in...you're in. And its a little stressful. and plan on it taking up ALOT of you time.(and any xtra money you might have) My husband and I are still hanging on but in this economy in america its really tough. It is very hard to provide somthing that can be gotten somewhere else at a lesser price-weither youre talking about goods or services. What are you wanting to do and is it gonna fly in your area? You almost have to start local unless you're talking about an internet service.you can pm me if you like. Otherwise good luck

Have you heard of starupweekend.org? Check out their website and see if you can go to an event. The idea behind the event is for people to meet others, form teams and launch startups. While I'm just an attorney, I'm probably going to go with one of my friends.

Hello!

Reflecting back 4-5 years. I remember working a dead end and physical demanding job on minimum wage. I hated every minute of it and with no education this is where I had to work from. I realized quickly that it weren't where I belonged and it enabled me to think obsessively about the future. What can I do? How can I become economical independent?

Simuntanesly while working the demanding job I spontaneously created a company. With no clear plan on how to bring in income, just one criteria, it had to be on the Internet.

From trial and error, I learned what worked and what didn't work.

The first two years was the hardest. Saving up money in a shitty job while making my own business grow. No sparetime; only sleep, eat, work and work. After taking notice of that 'now' I could live of my own business on the bare minimum per month safely, I just went all in. No more lousy job, all my hours and saved up money straight into business. In 2010 I had an income of ca. 250k USD after taxes, so I'm not super-rich, but it's more than I can spend anyways. Now I'm planning to expand.

It is something special watching your own business grow from a dust grain to a successful establisment. Highly recommend it if you're up for it.

A few self lived tips:

1. Find your area of expertise and just go, start the company. Don't question, think, hesitate, procrestinate, it leads you to circle of nowhere. You'll learn plenty as you tag along.

2. Dedication, dedication, dedication. In every sucessful man or woman, dedication is the foundation. Getting boring? Business going slow? Low income?
Reward yourself with a day off, buy some drugs, alcohol, hookers, spa, or a nice resutrant dinner. Think! Why did you start a company? Can you do anything differently? .. you know the drill..

3. Make a plan. Set realistic goals. Follow through.
Did you slack? That's the worst you can do. You must now go and punish yourself, hard.
Totally unrealistic? Lower your expectations. It takes time. There is no magic wand.
Bah, plan? Yeah, bah indeed. In my first month my entire plan was three words, "Customer number one" - it comes naturally after a while.

4. Don't listen to people who say what you can't do/negative people. If you can do it, you can do it. If it's successful or unsucessful is another story. These people is extra uncessary baggage and ignorant.

5. And remember to have fun, because it is. Take a timeout, watch and enjoy.

I have a couple and am also involved with software development & web. I think software & web is the way forward for a modern entrepreneur - more so than marketing these days - although you will need that too (or a friend to do that side of things, SEO will probably not be enough on it's own).

Oh, and it's all about having a good idea.

Good luck.
