Are INT types inherently depressed?

I've been wondering this for awhile. Are INT types inherently depressed? I don't think I've ever met fellow INT who was actually happy with their life, so I know that it's not just me. I'm not saying that I'd rather not live, or even that I'm not satisfied with some aspects of my life, but I can't remember a time when I was ever totally satisfied or content. Is it just me?

Nah. Dom Ti-inf Fe may make it seem like it, and apparently/statistically possibly more prone to be depressed, but it's all good xD
certainly not inherently so.

I've wondered if the presence of Si - a melancholic function - caused this. Generalizing however it seems to be more widespread among the IN's as you note. Here is a possible explanation Why INFPs, INTPs, INFJs, & INTJs Struggle to Act.

Introverted Intuitives (INs) are commonly classified as reflective personality types, whereas Extraverted Sensors are construed as active types. INs’ reluctance to act can contribute to problems when it comes to things such as careers or relationships ... Specifically, I will suggest that INPs difficulty with acting relates more to indecisiveness, whereas INJs’ struggles stem largely from their idealism and perfectionism.

In myself and my INFJ I can see both of these play out, and the resulting "depression" (too strong a word in this context). We're both quite happy when working and productive, with the problem being getting into that productive state, which is so much easier for E's and S's.

Much of my musings on this board are fundamentally about this important topic.

Your rather nice, eloquent use of vocabulary and grammar doesn't cease to appeal to me. I like your choice of words, but it's definite that you are in your 40s, I've seen you use quite a few archaic words (note: note insinuating that 'musings' is anywhere near archaic, but from other words).

Thoughts are forms conceived in the mind, rather than the forms perceived through the five senses. Thought and thinking are the processe...

I mean, how incredibly perfect for an INTP (appealing to N>S, with the definition, possibily including T): 'musings.'

I have a large vocabulary due to an upbringing lacking in much other than the library. This was long before the internet and we were out in the country. We could receive a few radio stations and 5 TV channels. When I was very young my mom read a lot to me too. The upshot was that I've read many books and placed 99%+ in the verbal SAT (don't ask about the Math).

My INTP son gets a lot more internet but only curated TV and movies, we also spent a huge amount of time reading to him, again with similar results. It's amusing to hear a six year old say things like "father, I fear we are out of berry pie".

I've seen you use quite a few archaic words (note: note insinuating that 'musings' is anywhere near archaic, but from other words).

I like littering my prosody with the occasional rat dropping.

:rip: ever the comedian, er rather back in your time...
always a ham.

I'm so young, but...I love older (LOL, ok I'll stop), people, esp. in academia or high profile...they know how to speak, I long for conversing.

No news there

It's a mistake to think that old on the outside equals old on the inside. It used to be that people aged - prematurely in my view. My grandparents were of a generation that went to pasture and quietly fell apart.

My father however is in his 80's and you can't tell. He's been taking a lot of international trips, loves his iPhone and texts with his grandkids. Loves his computer too, and will fly down to San Francisco to take classes at an internationally known bread baking institute.

My mom used to say that as you get older you don't feel any different than when you were a teenager. She was right.

Wait, the hormones never stop raging? The angst just sticks around like a hungry 800lb. gorilla cemented onto your heart? I'm more screwed than a nickel-hooker in Sin City.

Oh why would you ever want the angst to end? I love treating life as a pseudo-romcom.

The angst makes me want to slam my forehead onto a spindle sometimes.

I feel anything but zesty when the spindle looks comfy.

rather, I reword: it makes things: interesting. And you know, boringness is so...not interesting, and boring.

If I found pain interesting, then I would hurl myself down the stairs. Reading a sad story about losing a dog and feeling sad is interesting because you are aesthetically distanced from the pain of the characters; losing one's dog, conversely, provides no such distance and is therefore very unpleasant.

The wine mellows, but it's the same wine.
