First and foremost, this idea was just to start some small talk, even so, I’ll try to leave jokes out and be serious.

I tried to do a fish sandwich a few days ago... I haven’t had dairy in a while because I wasn’t a fan of the lactose intoleration although I loved drinking milk as a kid, and our older brother always said it was nasty and chastised me for it.

You can’t tell nor notice any differences without extensive data to pin a causal relationship between two events, although, I may have been physically bulkier back then if anything.

I read somewhere that calcium doesn’t even make bones stronger.

On my way home to cook Coles honey mustard chicken with added corn/beans/capsicum which I'll serve with microwaved brown rice and a glass of coke zero.

Maybe I'll add some pepper and grated chedder and a shot of brandy to the coke.

I think I actually got food poisoning from too much fruit, or maybe just juice and refined sugars. I came down with a fever. That meal sounds particular, and I’m not a fan of the microwaved rice, brown at that. I don’t drink soda anymore, I used to when a kid opting for a Vanilla Coke, if anything, which was better than cherry. I haven’t drawn my luck to see if soda works for me still. You typically want your body to absorb nutrients it can derive calories from to use, not empty carbs so much, where your body can’t use it.

I would eat meat, vegetables and fruit exclusively if I had the time and money but mainly my meals are a trade off between time/effort and nutritional value. Microwaved rice is just rice with a controlled portion size, short preparation time and much less cleanup than using a rice cooker.

On the rare occasion that I cook dinner, I throw a piece of meat into a frying pan and the come back about 7 minutes later to eat it. Adding vegetables would be a waste of time, of course.

My regular snack lately has been a fruits and nuts mix. I quite enjoy it.

I drink a lot of tea as well so when I eat meals, they are usually on the smaller side. Eg, supper earlier was just two cobs of corn.

@Pizzabeak I am also lactose intolerant. Lactase(sp?) pills can help, but only to a point. I find there is almost no way to save myself from the effects of sugary dairies - like icecream.

On another note, I’ve noticed I am enjoying meat less and less. I am slightly disappointed by this, because I used to like it a lot. Oh well.

I’m not lactose intolerant. I know a lot of Asian people are because of their history, and lack lactose enzymes from years of specific diet. It’s not to try and be smart for pointing out logic in daily routines and practices.

Fruit, nuts, salads, some bread, and water is the right way to do it, then you can look into specifics such as color and what that may signify, ultimately.

I tend to have weeks of eating a lot of junk (violife cheese and vegenaises will be the death of me) and then weeks of eating pretty healthy.

I recently discovered I enjoy peanut butter and cocnut milk cooked together, maybe with red lentils and some other spices, so that's a combination I've been using a lot lately.... Oh, putting in apples to boil is also pretty good. And bananas either cooked or raw at the side.

I'm too lazy to do recipes, so this was a random discovery after a chain of failed cooking experiments.

I also discovered I can add various seeds to pretty much any dish that has cooked veggies, so that's one simple way of adding nutrients and shake it up. Like, sometimes I boil sunflower seeds with broccoli and cauliflower. Or I add raw chia seeds or pumpkin seeds to the dish after everything is done cooking. Sesame seeds go with a lot of stuff as well.

On the rare occasion that I cook dinner, I throw a piece of meat into a frying pan and the come back about 7 minutes later to eat it. Adding vegetables would be a waste of time, of course.

A waste of time because you don't like the taste? If so, I guess so. But if you're concerned with time, veggies like green peas are ready to eat after adding boiled hot water to them (from like a water boiler reaching 100 degrees). They are certainly done in 7 minutes. I haven't really timed cauliflower and broccoli, but they don't take too long unless you prefer them boiled to mush (which I often like) and they go with most things. Buying them in frozen packages also means fairly cheap nutrients. I easily eat 1kg of frozen veggies every day (after boiled ofc).

Cooking veggies kills the vitamins, not so much the minerals.

That is what I heard anyway.

@Minuend If you both freeze and boil vegetables you might as well be chewing on sawdust.

I personally avoid vegetables because based on my research the net benefit of them is negative. (Lots of inflammatory substances and very little absorbable micronutrients). But no one is interested in hearing that of course, because of the prevailing trends.

How so?

I actually remembered after, that you might have mentioned eating raw or not boiling veggies or something to that effect? Or am I misremembering? I think there was an element of it, because shortly after, I read an article about some new findings where humans were boiling veggies over 120 000 years ago and I thought about that in context of what you said

Idk, there's a lot of opinions as to how damaging pretty much any food is. It's like humans weren't meant to eat.

When you say nobody wants to hear it, well, maybe, but it's also possible what you say is just wrong. I mean, how do we know when we are right in a unpopular opinion vs being just wrong? I know intelligent people who know how to interpret studies and who are skeptical beings who would disagree with you.

Inb4 you take that statement as proof nobody wants to listen. Frankly, if I wanted to live in my own bubble I wouldn't be vegan or cynical. I'd live happily ever after, popping out kids and eating huge stacks of meat like everyone else in my family. My perspective of things isn't doing me any favors.

I am a fan of berries, but the lil seeds always anger me afterwords.

I’m not Asian, but native american. Probably a lot more similar than one would expect though. In my youth I drunk milk like it was water because I was told it was good for you and it tasted good. No ill effects til I was about 12, got kidneystones made of calcium, hmm. I stopped drinking milk then, and very rarely had dairy products until a couple years ago (when I was ~26). Instantly had adverse effects and realized I was lactose intolerant.

There yogurt brands, expensive ones that bring berries with em. A tip is to drop some honey and nuts. It's always a win no matter the time of the day.

Drinking too much coffee, which is bad. Basically drinking tea and coffe to prevent myself from eating too much shitty food. Uggh, I need to go on a liquid diet again to "reset" my stomach.

You can strain them? Have you ever had stawberry seeds stuck between your teeth? Unpleasant af.

you can since the amazing technological advancement known as the sieve! simply press the (blended) fruit through a sieve using a wooden spoon. the seeds will be left behind and you can use the seedless pulp in smoothies, conserves, leathers, sorbets, various baking etc

any stray little seeds which fail to succumb the miraculous sieve can now be disloged from teeth by yet another astonishing invention known rarely outside academic circles, the "toothpick"

I’m actually ahead of the curve slightly on you with this one, I keep a bag of floss picks around instead of the vanilla toothpicks.

Trying to force the lil seeds out usually results in myself hurting my gums though. Apparently it’s better to just do NOTHING and let them dislodge themselves in time. Thus, anger.

Smoked salmon. Not because I eat a particularly healthy diet, but because I bought it on a whim and turns out that there's nothing else in the fridge.
