Aversion to Sci-Fi

It seems sci-fi and fantasy (movies, tv, comic books) are common interests to a lot of introverts, but whenever my friends watch something sci-fi I find myself extremely bored and uninterested. I'd say vampires and super-heroes would be my most disliked form of sci-fi.

I much prefer stuff that's realistic or based on reality. I guess part of the reason is that I find reality to be so much more complex and interesting than anything anyone can "imagine". My favorites are organized-crime shows like Breaking Bad, Goodfellas, Sopranos, Sons of Anarchy, etc.

Could it be that sci-fi scenarios are a type of blind ideology (I tend not to like these), in that the 'magical' or 'mystical' things that occur cannot be understood by analysis, but instead rely on the viewer to simply 'accept' them? I'm not sure exactly why I'm repulsed by sci-fi.

Are there any concepts in intp type-analysis that can explain this? Anyone else repulsed by sci-fi?

Your opinion seems awfully biased. I'm not big on it myself and even I know that science fiction is not pure fantasy. Nothing precludes it from being realistic or based on reality. And those shows and movies you listed were imagined.

Surprising, what do you consider your type?

I've always liked hard Sci Fi and hard fantasy (Tolkien mainly). Still reading it before I go to sleep. As Heinlein said the best Sci Fi is when you have the best regular fiction with additional elements (out in space, aliens, etc.)

Therefore, to me it's more than straight fiction because of this extra dimension. A good example is the recent Battlestar Galactica reimage. Good fiction, good characters, stories, basic human emotions. Like any good story the plots are about some conflict, in this case genocide from robots that they created.

I dislike the poor storyline behind a lot of superhero and sci-fi productions, but like Architect said if the story is good already, it adds entertainment and sometimes depth when a good story is set in a surreal environment.

It's more of a self-observation than an opinion. I thought about this AFTER I noticed I don't like fantasy. I didn't have any prior opinions about fantasy that prevented me from enjoying the genre.

Yes those shows are imagined, but they are realistic.

Unless you've figured it all out, Reality, as a whole, is currently incomprehensible, just like Fantasy. The only real difference is the level of elaboration and detail. Science has only elaborated reality. Perhaps its about systems, micro-systems and micro-explanatory power. The more elaborated something is, the more systems there are. Thus, reality has more systems and, with it, more micro-explanation.

Type wise, interest in Fantasy and SciFi is strongly linked with iNtuition. Imaginative people like imaginations. The N function IS the imagination function.

But you could argue that because F/SF worlds are up to the imagination of the creator, and therefore are arbitrary and unsystematical, they must therefore be unappealing to T-types. The problem with this argument is that these imaginations may not be pure imaginations. They could be possibilities, reflections of a possible reality. Also, imagination is not necessarily non-systematical. Consider logic and math. However S/SF are not puzzles, crime shows are puzzles. So if you ARE doing some active thinking within these shows, then your asserted type and interest could still cohere. You could possibly be TiSi.

iNtuition is about imagination. The more imagined something is, the more it is a product of iNtuition and the more it appeals to iNtuitive types.

crime shows are puzzles.

No they're not.

Horror movies are puzzles, I can usually deduce the ending before it comes, but crime shows always have some moronic twist that isn't revealed until the third act, hell half the time the killer isn't even shown until the third act at which point he blatantly reveals himself and it's quickly over with a minor "dramatic" scuffle.

There's variations on this, but not by much, the investigators never really struggle to find evidence to prove the killer guilty once they've figured out who it is, no that's an entirely different type of show, a court drama.
