What about being a hotel critic? Think about it, going all over the world to different places and trying out new foods and activities. And why not do it in style?

That would not be quite as great as it seems! There are so many hell-hole hotels out there. And the thought of always being in the same tourist-friendly, too predictable places with servants sporting fake smiles is just... no.

The food would be nice. And the travel.

I'd much be one of those guys that get to write the in-depth travel guides. They get to go to actually interesting places.

I am already in my dream job! :p

Advertising, copywriter! Haha... nearly every day is a new challenge - which means I never get bored. Can get quite stressed out sometimes though. ><"

I also don't mind being a food critic... travelling around the world to sample food and do write-ups!

I wouldn't want to have a job neither. What do i need a job for? In this society for having a normal living standard, nothing else. I know, there are all around these sayings like "Without a job you will become a couch-potato with no real life." Come on! As if i would define myself through my job. I define myself through me. So simple is that.

As for my 'dream life': I really would like to have dsome kind of Startrek-starfleet-starship. Well, specifying this i mean a Starship without people in it. The important parts were the food replicator, the warp speed, and the huge (quite 'mythical' ;)) federation database a some decent computers. Ah yes, and the holodeck would be cool.
Ok, thats the hightech variant. In lowtech i would have to have some kind of food generation, or to speak more abstract, the only thing i really need is some* to take care of my bodily needs. Then i would be happy, because i just could spend my time with what i am interested in that moment. Which constantly changes.

In general, i would suppose most of us would easily find interesting things without a job?

If I was financially secure for the rest of my life, I'd spend all my time learning new things. That's all.

For money I would slay dragons and other menaces with a group of close and specialized friends, we would not be any ordinary kick in the door menace slayers but methodical and effective artists of conflict. I would use that money to fund my writing, of which there would be many volumes of but few copies.

Hello

Or rather, call in the Dragons as it seems that a Guardian has joined the Idealist group.

I want to be a cop because I think it would put me in a good position to help people and society as a whole.
I want to be a backcountry trail worker because I like the outdoors, and this job would allow me to stay in the wild for six months and GET PAID TO DO IT!
I want to be a bartender cause I like listening to people.
I like being a busboy, so I may just continue doing it for awhile. But at different restaurants.

A job where I am paid to think and not hemmed in by long work hours or conventional ways of behaving. Journalist would be nice; who goes on to news stations and acts like they understand the intracacies of every darn political issue. Research scientist or freelance writer would also fill the bill, although that might take extensive schooling and entail long work weeks...dammit.

Here are my dream jobs in no particular order:

  • Celestial Dictator
  • Billionaire Venture Capitalist
  • Internet Entrepreneur
  • Expensive ($200/hr+) e-Marketing Consultant
  • Professional Masturbator
  • Theoretical Physicist
  • Economics Professor
  • Hobo Drifter
  • Pornographer
  • Hitman/Assassin

I've got a lot of experience designing and marketing websites, so my goal is to create new websites and online businesses and make them profitable. Once the sales are booming, I can decide to either sell that particular website/business or hire a competent manager, while I work behind the scenes providing the vision and ensuring my goals are met.

Right behind you, sipping tea.
...

Working in an orphanage in South America; teaching both deaf and hearing kids about music, language, math, and God; taking weekend hikes with only me and God.

And maybe being a librarian.

I want to be a chef.

I'd also like to become a concept artist, but I can't draw.
And as another person said, I'd love to travel around the world and experience every culture, learn about all the history, and the traditions.

I would do exactly what I'm doing now - write software. I have the option of quitting and doing something else (have financial independence), and so gave myself the choice. Oddly enough realized that I already was doing exactly the right thing.

If money weren't an issue, then I'd be a professional hobo.

If money weren't an issue you'd have tough competition. We're all more than qualified. :D

Veh. Not telling.
Hmmm...

1. A poor musician: being a musician whom would wander the streets and alleys of Europe, playing for money. How free!
2. A writer: Though writing makes me tired, it is rather exhilarating and exciting.
3. A poet: Another writing job. Poetry is worth pursuing.

philosophy/english professor
counselor (for the 'reformed', to initiate positive growth)
proffessional reader would be nice too; I could spend my days just reading books
maintain a [huge] personal garden to tend and meditate upon

1. To be a physics professor
2. To own a small local bookstore
3. To travel the world and learn about different cultures
4. To be a glassblower
5. To draw, paint, or write

I always thought that INTPs were creative. They are creative because they use creativity to enhance their logic and see beyond what most people see.

INTPs don't have any special tendency towards creativity, from what I've observed. Creative INTPs would, I imagine, however, exhibit certain correlations in their expression of flavor of creativity--preferring the dark, the complex, the layered, and the minimalistic, for example. That's an interesting conjecture, actually... Perhaps we should start a thread asking for INTPs who consider themselves creative to give examples of their art and look for common denominators?

I would be a professional jazz pianist, but only play about one concert a week, and spend the rest of the time seeing the world and experimenting with studio equipment.

By desire:

Robotics. I'm more fascinated with robotic animals. Probably not a very realistic job selection for various reasons. I think I would find enjoyment in constructing parts together and make it respond to outside environment, programming them. And forming it's body, like sculpturing. It would be the perfect combination of art, science and creativity.

Being outside exploring nature and it's creatures. Studying various species. Discover secrets of the animal kingdom.

Growing human organs using stem cells. Every year, Adaire and I would compete in the annual competition for the largest grown heart.

Inventor. There are so many cool and useful things which aren't being made and sold yet. I guess the business phrase would be "product designer" or "systems engineer".

Wow. I love all this. It's interesting.

Being paid to think sounds great. Financial and logical freedom sounds great too. That's probably as far as I can go right now.

I would most likely travel the world (original right?) and poke my head in more deeply into psychology. After this tsunami gets cleaned up, I would head to Japan. The gadgets and tech there would keep me busy for a few years before I got bored and went someplace else. Something tells me that at some point, I would try to gain power with psychology....sort of an unspoken politician if that makes sense. I wouldn't want political power, just influence.

I guess that is something all INTP's search for as we don't wield too much in our everyday lives.

I would build... What i would build? I have no clue.. I guess i could try to list a few things?

-Design more efficient housing and commercial buildings
-Design more efficient means of travel (while taking into consideration that some vehicles would still need the power and size to transport goods)
-More effective manufacturing without complete dependency on machine (people needs jobs)

Other things besides building and designing shit?
-Supervise politics to ensure nobody gets their panties in a bunch and what is being done will benefit all of mankind and not just some money hungry politicians.
-Assassinate politicians.
-I was about to say i would like to be a lawyer but i think i would prefer to be the judge, why put so much effort into trying to make a case to some under qualified judge judy wanna be, when i can be the one behind the stand peering into peoples souls through all of the bullshit.
-Working at Taco Bell would be sweet? They get free tacos right? Free tacos! Hell yeah!

I've been told that i live in sweden
I'd like to be a wanderer. Having a few different professions.
I would be an artist and a philosopher, and I would also like to be a clockmaker.

I would carry everything I owned on my back. and I would belong to a guild that would give me jobs...

...

...No, fuck it. I want to be a pokémon trainer. I want to run about in the forests assaulting innocent animals for my own amusement and never worry about money because after winning a cockfight I would steal half of the other trainers money.

And food wouldn't be a problem either, I would just catch some pokémon after injuring them severely and eat them when I got hungry. I'm sure those pokéballs could be used as fridges.

The only drawback is that I would have to remember feeding the little chitterlings.
