You have to find the right context to use both methods?
If the I/E is easy to figure out, then so should J/P ... right? you just try and make note of their J function...
S/N and T/F might be obvious but probably are not, so I would really stick to the I/E and J/P first.
Then again, I/E can be very misleading...
They are going to use either Fe or Te those are fairly easy to watch for.
Se is quite obvious to the outside. Apparently Se-doms and Ni-doms can be confused because the grip experience of Se is supposedly just an all-out binge on the senses (food and drink, excessive volume/noise) and that can look like Se-dominance to people. (Every time I think about this I drift back to xNTJ)
I'm starting to get a better picture of Ne and how to spot it.
