The answer is "war communism", which was the state that the Russian people never
quite got out of until the fall of the Soviet Empire.

And then there are other aspects that play into this tragedy,
like Lenin being a German Agent,
Stalin most likely poisoning Lenin to get into his position of power,
Stalin persecuting and eliminating his former "comrades", including Trotsky,
Personality worship, intrigues which in turn led to Stalin having a little accident, etc. etc.
(The interesting thing here is that Stalin worked for the tsarist secret police Okhrana)
This ultimately had its impact on an intellectual level as well.
For instance Lysenkoism, Scientific communism/Marxism-Leninism/Stalinism/Anti-Revisionism which put Lenin and Stalin respectively into the Marx-Engels line of great thinkers, which i think has been a grave mistake, just as Maoism has been etc.
