I asked around and it seemed like there were a few in favor so this is the derailed thread thread. I often found the derailed ideas or topic was actually quite interesting so whenever a thread is closed for being derailed the derailed discussion can take place in this thread. As other threads get derailed the conversation will change to them obviously.

(although this could be a bad idea if the mods want to close something because of the topic of the derailed thread :D)

So, next time someone highjacks your thread send them here to rail them.

What if I derail this thread directly by bypassing the need for a diffrent, derailed thread. Will you then guide me to this thread as i'm derailing a thread, which would put this thread back on it's own rails?

In the last two decades, Asia has become the world’sfastest economically growing area. Countries in Southeast Asia are growing at an increasing rate. For instance, the average annual income is increasing from 4% to 8%, population from 2% to 3%, urbanization from 4% to 6%, and meat consumption from 4% to 8%. In this region, pork is the most important source of meat, accounting for approximately 58% of total meat output. However, pig production in the region is small in scale with more than 70% being smallholders. Regional and national goals to reach the international market threaten traditional pig production due to its perceived low standard of output.

Alongside, natural resources are under high pressure from heavy pollution emanating from pig production. Industrialization has caused the migration of the pig population from rural areas to the outskirts of big cities like Manila, Ho Chi Minh, and Siemriep, or Phnom Penh. Industrialization has also resulted in air, soil, and water pollution in these cities. In addition, the region shares a huge area of the South China Sea and by intensive pig keeping, surplus nutrients and minerals flow into that sea.

Alongside economic growth, animal production is increasing rapidly in Asia. Compared with their 31% share of the world meat production in 1980, developing countries will produce 60% by 2020 (Delgado et al. 1999). Of this projected 60%, 13.2% will be produced in SoutheastAsia alone.Depending on the country and the scale of production, pigs are important for farmers as a major source of family income or as a ‘savings bank’ (Steinfeld 1998). In the studied areas, pig production shares 2.0% to 2.8% of the total value of national GDP (Jones 2002; FAO AGAL 2005a).

However, the increase in production has brought forth a host of social, economic and environmental concerns. Specifically, these concerns relate to such areas as nutrition, animal health, animal productivity/genetic make-up, extension services, provision of finance to small-scale producers, and marketing. In addition, countries in the region aim to expand pig production and start exporting their pigs and pig products (MARD News 2006); this means that there will be a dramatic increase in the pig population and the attendant effects of such development in the near future. Given the future of pig production and its accompanying problems, developing countries—in particular, the subjects of our study—need to focus on the impact of such development not only on the livelihood of smallscale pig holders but also on the environment. The effects of pig production on both economic growth as well as environmental sustainability should be seriously considered in drawing up regional and national plans.

Table 1. Pork consumption in proportion to total meat produced in some countries in Asia.
2000, % 2001, % 2002, % 2003, % 2004, %

PIG PRODUCTION:
ITS ROLE IN ECONOMIC GROWTH
AND AS A DEVELOPMENT PATHWAY

The countries we selected for study, namely, Cambodia, Laos, Philippines, and Vietnam share similarities in terms of the characteristics of pig production and its role as a development pathway in their respective economies (Cameron 2000). In this section and the next, we discuss these features, focusing on the similarities among the subjects of our study, as well as the peculiar characteristics for each country (please see the Annex for more background information on each country as well as details on the respective status of the industry). We start below with the role of pig production in the economy.

Before 1999, pork consumption in the region was very erratic (Riethmuller et al. 2002). However, except for Laos which registered a decline of 8%, pork consumption from 1999 to the present has increased per year at 0.1% in Cambodia, and 0.7% in Vietnam (Table 1 and Figure 1). The increase in pork consumption has led to an increase in the pig population of Laos (by 4.5%), and Vietnam (by 4.6%) (Food Agricultural Organization [FAO] 2006). The increase in pig headsin the areasstudied is partly traceable to the low slaughter weight which averages around 60 kg (MARD 2006) (See Figure 2).

Lipstick continues making the headlines, but its reputation as a go-to beauty enhancer has been overshadowed by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s admission that our nation’s top-selling brands possess varying yet still acceptable levels of lead (see References 1). Consequently, the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics has requested transparency about maximum lead limits and an explanation of the health consequences of using such cosmetics over a prolonged period of time (see References 2). Fortunately, this organic, emollient DIY version (see References 3) -- best applied with a lip brush -- offers peace of mind in a universally flattering shade.

Items you will need:
Small saucepan or double boiler
Small whisk
2 tablespoons organic grapeseed oil
1 tablespoon organic avocado butter
1 teaspoon of beet root powder
6 drops of your favorite organic essential oil
2 ounce glass cosmetic jar with resealable lid
Lip brush

Step 1:
Place 2 tablespoons of organic grapeseed oil into a small saucepan or a double boiler along with 1 tablespoon of organic avocado butter. Heat the mixture at a very low temperature, whisking constantly until both ingredients have liquefied and are well combined.

Step 2:
To tint this organic lipstick base, slowly incorporate 1 teaspoon of beet root powder until all clumps have dissolved. If a deeper intensity is desired, feel free to add an additional teaspoon of the pigment, whisking steadily until the mixture is uniform in consistency and color.

Step 3:
Remove the lipstick base from the heat and allow it to stand for several minutes. Then whisk approximately 6 drops of cinnamon, peppermint or fennel essential oil into the mixture for a final product imparted with natural breath-freshening properties.

Step 4:
Sterilize an empty glass cosmetic jar in rapidly boiling water for roughly 10 minutes before drying it thoroughly. Finally, pour the homemade lipstick base inside, allowing the formula to solidify for several hours before applying it with a lip brush or fingertip.

Tips
Melt the homemade lipstick ingredients together until they reach a maximum temperature of 170 degrees Fahrenheit.

Avocado butter is also referred to as hydrogenated avocado fruit oil and can easily be substituted with another natural emollient agent such as beeswax, or for a vegan alternative, carnauba, soy, mango, shea or candellila wax.

Cranberry fruit powder can be used in place of beet root powder with equally successful results.

To create customized lipstick tones, use other natural food-grade colorants derived from powdered roots/spices, stewed or freeze- flower petals/vegetables/fruits or even crushed mineral pigments.

Plant-based oils that aren't chemically preserved typically have a limited shelf life, so store this homemade lipstick in a cool, dry place, using it for up to 3 months before discarding the remainder.

@EyeSeeCold

Slightly tipsy.

I just don't see how petty insults will accomplish anything.

We know ourselves that this kind of replys are only to damage. There is no constructive feeback and the hostility will never make anyone look at themselves or their behaviour.

And we are able to control ourselves to such degree that we wont write anything if we have nothing worthwhile to say. In fact, some of the unnecessary replys in other threads to (in this case) lyra has only given me a negative impression of the insulter. I mean, come on.

Some people it's just no use arguing with. They are too stuck in their own reasoning to be able to consider anything else (not referring to anyone in particular). These people are individuals you just have to ignore. I have the tendency to believe that people can be reasoned with, but after meeting this guy RL who lived in his own fantasy world, I've realized that some people just can't be reasoned with.

Bullying is the lowest form of communication. It's justified by simple excuses like people who stand out should tolerate negative feedback. What the hell? No room for creativity, difference or freedom.

There is a line where different becomes dangerous or too destructive, but then it's the mods (or police's) job to do something about it. Bullying is never ever the way to go.

On a forum where people claim they are rational, they still commit to petty behaviour.

You know I don't like it when you drink, minuend. :slashnew: You become another person, aggressive.

Petty insults, hostility, lack of constructive feed back, bullying:
Yes these are not conducive to cooperative or productive communication, and are ethically wrong(imo). Relevant to INTPf, I would say it's pretty tame. There are far more destructive instances of this on other forums, and even in real life abuse.

INTPf being full of hypocritically rational people:
Humans will be humans

Stubborn people who are no use arguing with:
Humans will be humans. I think people can be persuaded but it's usually not worth anyone's time or energy.

Lyra's situation:
Anyone and everyone should be allowed to post without harassment. The Pod'Lair situation is fair ground for arguing, but I agree that Lyra being followed into other threads is something else. Fukyo is taking care of Lyra's blog thread.

Extra:
Both sides?

One carries the responsibility of one's own actions alone. If (general) you have given in to the feeling of annoyance, then the subject is not to blame; you are.

I have myself given in to such and been rude and I blame nobody but myself. It's an opportunity for growth.

I remember someone saying that if a person was wearing a weird sweater, then he kinda would have to anticipate insults. I see this as another version of that scenario.
If a person is responsible for their actions and their actions alone, they are still also responsible for the result of their actions.

Believing you can do what you want and not expect consequences is just being self-centered and naive. The world is filled with other people and these people can and will react to your actions.

Responsibility falls on both sides because of the above, plus as you have been saying someone's behavior doesn't justify rudeness in return.
