If you are into Christian Rock/Metal, October was a huge month as far as releases go. Here's some of the stuff released this month.
There is just something about this song I cannot get enough of. No particular thing about this song is anything spectacular, but when you put it all together, I think it makes for a great listening experience. This album is in the running for AOTY for me. Really artistic stuff. I got the Deluxe version which makes the album far superior (which AFAIK is sold out now).
Although this single released some time before the official release of "The Hell We Create" when I listened to the album after I bought it was the first time I paid much attention to this song. This is a vocal heavy song and the style of vocals catches me.
This whole album is great. It's Christian Black Metal in Trve Kvlt fashion. Great release for CBM.
I already mentioned this band because their album accidentally released early, but I can't say enough good things about this album. It's right in line with what I love about Black Metal. This would be in the running for AOTY but it's an EP and not a full-length album.
The band Stryper is a huge band in the Christian Metal world since they started in the 80s and have been pioneers in the scene since then. This kind of music is usually outside of my wheelhouse, but this particular song is great IMO.
I have heard a few different people say this is their AOTY for them. While I probably wouldn't put it that high, it is a pretty fantastic album. Saint is another band like Stryper who have been pioneers of the Christian Metal scene.
This isn't really CBM, but it is Unblack Metal. I really appreciate this artist in general and he is always solid.
This was an album I was really looking forward to ever since I got "Epoch of Exile" earlier in the year by the same artist. Some really creative stuff as far as CBM goes.

speaking of christian music, i was actually listening to this right now:

this song is more than 1000 years old

started to get a bit more into music theory lately, which is why i came across this. This song right here (along with other so-called "plainchants") is the basis of all western music.

this particular arrangement in B flat is all just notes up and down the natural minor scale. The natural minor scale, along with other modes of the major scale, form the basis of 99.9% of all music most of us have ever heard - rock, pop, etc etc. Those monks and nuns came up with it.

That's a beautiful song, thanks for sharing.

The traditional scales are based on maths. For example, when you take a string a pluck it against a hollowed-out area, it will create a sound. If you shorten the string in half, it will make the sound of the same note on a different octave. Hence, when this was discovered, it created the scales we have based on shortening stings in half. Hence, 8 notes.

Here's a song based on similar-sounding chants only with modern music (released this year):

i guess you could call a plain sequence of semitones a "scale", but by scale i mean for example the major scale. That is a specific subset of notes in an octave, which creates a certain flavor/mood of music. That's why you can e.g. easily distinguish between western music and, say, middle-eastern music - they use different scales. The specific choices that have been made in different cultures as to what subset of notes to use is not based on math, but rather what they find pleasing to the ear.

my point is just that the connection between, say, modern pop music, and gregorian chants is much more specific than a general mathematical/theoretical aspect of sound. It's a cultural connection (which i find highly fascinating)

Here is an Atonal song for comparison:

"Hello My Lover"

Hello my lover wherever you are
I've been a fool my dear
A fool by far
But I've grown up in my mind
I've played the game of love and lost
And now I'm crying
Aha Aha oh yeah

If you come back my dear
There'll be some changes made
I will alter myself in every way
I'm gonna start a brand new policy
I'm gonna teach you a lesson in loveology
Hmmm hmmm mmm mmm oh yeah

Yes I will
Yes I will
You know I will

I'm gonna try my best do what is right
I'm gonna bewitch you my dear
Day and night
I'm gonna teach a brand new policy
I'm gonna teach you a lesson in loveology
Hmmm Hmmm oh yeah

Yes I will
Yes I will
You know I will

Yes I will
Yes I will
You know I will

Yes I will
Yes I will
You know I will

The vocals turn me off it, though I did like the higher-pitch vocals near the end (not the cleans). The overall feel of the instrumentals is close but not quite right for me. Thanks though :)

For Valentines Day:
I think its Stevie Wonder in the background:

It's a bright
It's a light
It's a so outta sight
It's a feeling all right, morning noon or night

It's the best thing in life that you don't have to buy
It's a funny funny feeling down in your heart

It's a neat
It's a treat
It's a something that's sweet
It's the one thing in life that will never be beat
It's a once it's inside you it loses the key
That's that funny funny feeling down in your heart

It's a lu uh uh uh ove
It's a lu uh uh uh ove
It's a lu uh uh uh ove
It's the funny funny feeling down in your heart

Let it in
To your heart and you'll feel this funny feeling
Let it in
And together we'll join in harmour love

Let it in
For the beat of your heart will keep the rhythm
Let it smile
On the outside and sing in harmour love

`Aaw, Joe!'
It's a pin
It's a friend
It's a how have you been
It's a `I'm looking forward to seeing you again'

It's a laugh
It's a grin
It's a let it begin
With that funny funny feeling down in your heart

It's a walk through the park
It's a kiss in the dark
It's a vow made by two that they never will part
It's a spark that you feel from the moment it starts
Known as that funny funny feeling down in your heart

It's a lu uh uh uh ove
lu uh uh uh ove (harmony)
It's a lu uh uh uh ove
It's a lu uh uh uh ove
It's that funny funny feeling down in your heart

Let it in
To your heart and you'll feel this funny feeling
Let it in
And together we'll join in harmour love

I hardly drink or smoke outside social situations, so I feel like I'm appropriating this, but the vibe is what matters

Interesting. It does indeed speak for itself even without lyrics. A guy toying with the idea of self-medicating, he starts thinking alcohol might be his type of lover. Its playful, an underlying danger as he pushes for another. He's not given into the idea of total self-destruction just...yet, but heavily considers it the more he partakes. She's a lullaby to him. Eventually she will destroy him, but its the only love he knows anymore. Its a real "fuck it, fuck everybody" But also a relapse.

Whereas something like this is another form of addiction to a lover/friend. Aka, a different drug. Love/Hate relationship well established.
