Took an MBTI test during winter break. When I read the descriptions in depth afterwards it was like reading the most blunt and accurate self description I could ever hope to write of myself.

Even helped me make some connections about why I was interested in certain things that I had never made before.

i really can't understand why people "lurk"... treating forums that way defeats its purpose(IMO.)

I joined the day I found this place, but I understand lurking... especially as an INTP, I mean, we all wish to observe from a far.. that's essentially what lurking is.

you had nothing to say within those 4 months? I can understand if it were on a live forum but, really, ..its not exactly a "book" or an item to simply look at. Its interactive. But, then again, my opinion is just why read this when *that's* more fitting and qualified to be read, unless it's a "pleasure" issue. Which it is probably...

"because nothing worthwhile to say", are you sure that's the real reason?

Oh, and welcome to the forum Matt.
Nah, I didn't lurk either.

But that could be because I came from INTPcentral so I was in need of a place to take refuge, and cryptonia said the getting was good here.

Hi Matt, Welcome to the forum, as I have said, the getting here is actually quite satisfactory.

Urg, please don't remind me about that. I have the face the sad realization that I'm living in Oklahoma everytime I open my door to brave the sea of hillbillys on my way to class.

I'm Canadian originally, father is a titan of industry and always moved us around for the latest promotion. I get stuck here when college time came (He was here to shut down their operations in Oklahoma for a few years, not even dirty corporate kind wants a part of this place).

And as for time spent lurking, it's really not a matter of days in my mind, but hours spent reading the forum that really constitutes whether it was long or not. I did discover this place over winter break...

And as for why lurk? Well, in my youth I'd post a lot on online forums, but as time went on, most of the places I went, I just found it unrewarding. I get little satisfaction in sharing my opinion to random people. Here I find most of the convos going on exciting actually. Perhaps because people think like me.

Feels magical and surreal doesn't it? To have the majority think like you.

I could put it that way, yes. I've always felt like a stranger in a strange land, an alien of sorts when interacting with people of a more "normal" personality mindset. Over the years I've learned to pretend and mimic the thought patterns and behaviors of most people when interacting with them like a mask. It's nice to be able to put the mask away for a bit.

So let me get this right... You are a Canadian going to school in Oklahoma? LOL, that is rich. Do you spend time on the banks of the Canadian River or read the Canadian Sands newspaper...?

BTW Which school are you attending and does the name Slemko ring a bell ( a frat brother who is also a Canadian. He is also a "titan of industry"runs a bank or something up there and every one of his sentences ends with an 'eh ?') ?

EDIT: LOL- re: "Sea of Hillbillies"

YouTube- Canadian Sands July issue

Yeah, I've been in the U.S. for over half my life at this point (not all in OK though, thank goodness) but I refuse to identify with it and still hold my Canadian citizenship. Everytime I visit relatives I never want to come back. Alas, here I am though. Once I finish school I plan to move someplace more liberal, possibly even return to Canada although I'm worried about re-adjusting after being here so long.

I'm at Oklahoma State, it was cheap and had a really good chem engineering program, although eventually I decided chemistry was boring and switched to economics, and now I think economics is boring and am thinking of lawschool or getting an MBA. Such is the way of the INTP. Never heard of Slemko. My dad is the president of the North American wing of some big chemical and metal production company. Travels a lot and lives out of a suite case nearly half the time due to overseas meetings. I've long since lost my accent.

And only other INTPs would grasp that you mean "think in the way I think," not necessarily "agree with me on issues." This place has all the characteristics normal people associate with "home" for a great many of us. Welcome aboard.

lol I would never have even considered it meant the latter! How interesting.

And welcome Matt. It's nice to be reminded of what it felt like pre-INTPf - when I felt homeless and misunderstood. Despite the changes and occasional spats here I still feel it's one of the few spaces where I can participate without that horrible feeling of being the weird odd-one-out overwhelming me.
