Anyone know any fictional INTP's?

Off the top of my head I can only say Dr. Manhattan but i'm sure there are a lot more.

Daniel Faraday from Lost.
Adrian Monk from the TV show Monk

Some maybes are Jim from the Office, R2-D2, and Treebeard.

I've also seen speculation saying possibly Gandalf (mainly using evidence from the books) and Voldemort. But these ones are argued about a lot.

Yeah he seems more like a J to me to. I'm just relaying what the internet has told me.

hmm, Dib from Invader Zim? Might be INTP. And Zim could be ENTJ, mortal-enemy intellectuals in this situation. Each others' shadow.

Oh and can't forget L from Death Note, of course

L for certain. Not Voldemort, a better case could be made for Dumbledore methinks. I'm trying to think of neutral God-like perceiving entities just to drum up some traffic. Erm... the architect from the matrix? I haven't seen it in awhile. The scientist(s) from Code Geiss? Maybe Nakor from the Midkemia series? bleh... discuss!

I think Lawrence Waterhouse in Neal Stephenson's Cryptonomicon is INTP, and his grandson Randy Waterhouse is INTJ.

I think Ariel from "The End of Mr. Y" and Alice from "PopCo" (the main characters in books by author Scarlett Thomas) are both probably INTP. That explains why I love both of these books (although I have not finished reading PopCo yet).

The first character that came to mind was Clarisse from Fahrenheit 451. Though I am not sure she actually would be at all, after thinking on it.

Also Seymour Glass came to mind, but again I am not sure of that either.

California. Its hot here.
I've seen arguments for Sherlock Holmes being INTP... He is a "messy" genius after all. However people think hes an ISTP or an INTJ too... So the case is up for debate.

The protagonist of Hyouka, with his natural focus for efficiency, particularly for energy, being his key facet. it's an anime.

I know I wrote a list somewhere... oh well.

Patrick Jane from "The Mentalist."

He is INFP.

  • His knowledge is divine when it comes to the depths of human feelings and how they work. He himself is filled with one intense complicated emotion - revenge.
  • He loves helping people (even when he doesn't like to show it - for example when he got butt loads of money on an episode of poker he then bought gifts for his friends, and then he gave all of the rest to charity).
  • He goes on hunches rather then scientific research or ordered information.
  • He believes in Revenge/Mercy (Self-Righteous) rather than Justice..
  • He is deepening in his emotions, not his abilities. He is learning the capacity of his feelings, not the capacity of knowledge - his knowledge derives from his pursuit of better understanding of feelings (though easily mistaken to be the opposite)

Believe me, I want him to be an INTP just as much as you do. :slashnew:

Paul from Dune

I believe better cases could be made for Paul. To me he most looks like an INTJ. Now to add something to the actual list.

Sheldon Cooper from the big bang theory (no question there)

Letto II from Dune (I think that is a decent guess)

Count Fenring from Dune (a bit more tricky character, but wanted to throw him in here as a possibility)

Yoda from starwars also seems reasonable to consider.

hmm.. The old man from 'The count of monte cristo', who helps Edmund Dantes escape, might also be worth considering. (In fact that seems like a very decent guess, after giving it a few more seconds of thought)

I like to think it depends on what variation of Holmes you are reading/watching. I've debated this with my sister who is an INTJ and end up with a list of INTP/INTJ results.

There is this, though some of the claims are not entirely accurate. It is still the most complete list I have seen.

Edit: The link didn't work for a while.

Then you should meet an INFJ.

Sheldon Cooper from the big bang theory (no question there)
Doubt so. Not unless the goal of INTPs who study physics, is only so one day, they can win a Nobel Prize. Oh, and they harbour an open desire to take over the world.

Main reason why he is typed as an INTP, is that he has odd habits, and dislikes sex. However, I've read a lot of posts on INTJf, and there are a good few INTJs who have the same predilections.

Letto II from Dune (I think that is a decent guess)
Defo an INTJ.

Thufir Hawat seems an INTJ as well.

Yoda from starwars also seems reasonable to consider.
Yoda: The council is confident in its decision, Obi-Wan.
Mace Windu: The boy has exceptional skills.
Obi-Wan: But he still has much to learn, Master. His abilities have made him... well arrogant.
Yoda: Yes. Yes. A flaw more and more common among Jedi. Too sure of themselves they are. Even the older, more experienced ones.

Source
Would an INTJ think it wrong to be too sure of oneself? That's quite clearly a P-attribute.

Yoda: Dangerous and disturbing this puzzle is. Only a Jedi could have erased those files. But who, and why, harder to answer. Meditate on this I will.
Takes his time to solve a puzzle properly, even though that means he cannot give a solution at the moment.

Yoda: If Dooku escapes, rally more systems to his cause we will.
Has Fe.

Yoda: Senator Amidala, your tragedy on the landing platform, terrible. Seeing you alive brings warm feelings to my heart.
More Fe.

P & Fe => TP.

Sees much of what the Dark Side does. So N.

I'd say either INTP or ENTP. Given his lack of direct action, unless absolutely necessary, I would say: INTP.

Let's face it: Yoda looks like a hobo:

I seem to think:
John Shepperd from StarGate Atlantis (Sometimes he comes of as more of an ENTP, because of his duty. But generally I think INTP)

Spencer Reid from Criminal Minds (The pure INTP version for a very high IQ, and NOT LAZY)

Abed Nadir from Community. (Though he does hang between INTJ/P he prefers to adjust to situations and to dream about them, and when he does take a stance of some sort of character than he decides to change his environment according to his fantasy)

Sherlock Holmes:
BBC version: Probably ISTP (Though sometimes more INTP, depends on episodes)
Movie: Either INTP in a perfect world where everything goes according to the plan in-hand, or an extremely abstract ISTP (as he uses imagination to predict the future and it's effects and basing his decisions on it)
Books: INTJ

Yoda and Hermione Granger are perhaps both members of the INFJ clan.

Peter Parker's a good one, I think.

He's a book-smart nerd with maybe 3 close friends (to whom he's fiercely loyal).
His life is in shambles. He can barely keep a job.
His main struggle is with his own burgeoning responsibilities.
He has no discrete plan.
He takes the city's opinions of him personally.
He constantly berates his foes with puns and one-liners.

The Hulk. I saw Marvel's The Avengers a few weeks ago, and couldn't stop thinking about how INTP that professor was.

Close.

Hermione is a Sensor. Read all the books, and knows all the spells in them. Even does the ISTJ thing of telling the others off for not studying at times. But doesn't really think outside the box.

Det. Lester Freamon of the Major Crimes Unit of the Baltimore P.D. I've seen it argued on Typology Central or wherever that he is an INTJ, but there's no way a J would have the patience to make dollhouses for 13 years, waiting for the chance to resurrect his career. The "P" in INTP also stands for "patience."

INTP for sure. Probably why I felt so much of an affinity toward Spider Man growing up.

I can't associate to Brian. He seems a bit too emotional. With his novels and haughty attitude.

DEATH.

I really associate to Death from Family Guy.

Brian could be INFP just because I am INTP. Assuming that I am INTP.

Flat out I'd say I am whatever Death is.

It would be cool if spiderman was INTP. I love the part where he stops
the train & Mary Jane has such beautiful eyes. Great films.
