you could have written that same drivel about anything. means jack all. who are you to tell me i should focus on tunnels? every approach and method is equal!

not gonna read miles of letters by your friend even though it's of course sad that he passed away.

"If one is open minded, does the method matter?"*

vs.

"You're focusing too much on the meta; the result"

???

all i get from this is that you're exempt from language, or perhaps that you don't intend to make any sense. you haven't even quoted the meat of my post.

Re: Moderators (Bronto's derail)

So to elaborate on this...

Mods aren't special. We are in fact... just average users with extra buttons who have somehow been deluded, often by their own insanity, into caring about this place. Well... which we do. It's true. The job reeks of subjectivity, however, and beyond a certain point, postmodernism just gets old and annoying, and becomes a hindrance to the community at large. Bronto has gotten his panties in a twist over this, via posts and VMs, and well, has become a bit of a postmodern troll.

Endless drivel about the nature of subjectivity is on par with, for example, the reasons why large portions of the community felt smothered by Da Blob. Smothering. I like that word. Even more, I like "baiting to smother".

Re: Moderators (Bronto's derail)

I invite anyone to discuss this stuff here. After all, it's the community who ultimately defines the boundaries within which the madmin work.

Reasons for Mod Sass

-The mod in question is moot and if moot bans you, it means you are super cool now because he actually acknowledged your existence.

Brontosaurie's ban

Relevant threads:

http://intpforum.com/showthread.php?p=397464

http://intpforum.com/showthread.php?t=18003

From Ragnar's thread on forum rules:

10/ Attacks on mods are against the member's best interest; but should one be attacked, that individual shall not adjudicate their own case.

THD should not be making the decision to ban, and in the interest of transparency I'd like to know if a discussion between moderators took place. A simple yes or no is sufficient.

05/ Offenders may be given warnings; these do not incur an automatic penalty. The moderation team may ban any repeated offender after discussion; but a gross offender may be banned instantly by any mod or admin. The admin team will always back up any decision made. Requests to be banned will not be entertained.

Again, I'm curious to know if Brontosaurie was considered a repeated offender, whether it was discussed, and whether or not his ban without warning is because his actions within the threads were considered, 'grossly offensive'.

03/ There is no censorship of ideas, no matter how distasteful, apart from the obvious: this includes, but is not limited to porn, offensive images, spamming/trolling, illegal software links, advertising, and links that don't follow the conversation at hand. These posts may be edited or deleted by a mod, and in all cases the mod will always mark this in the post or thread itself and sign off. However no-one will ever alter another's posts, except in these instances ( or to correct annoying titles ).

Brontosaurie is free to disagree with THD and OldCoyote as much as he likes, and he asked genuine questions.

Banning him was a blatant oversight of the forum rules and expectations.

06/ Both being annoying, and/or posting fluff ( including trivia, harrassment of individuals, and overexcitement ) will restrict the member
concerned to post in Siberia for a time decided by the mod concerned.

This is at worst what describes Brontosaurie's behaviour in the thread. Which as per forum guidelines, entails being put in Siberia -not banning.

~~

Severely unimpressed by the blatant disregard for forum rules and expectations by a moderator.

If however this action was deemed universally fair by the rest of moderators, I request the rules are changed in order to correctly reflect the actual forum rules. Thanks.

Nope.

Banning him was a blatant oversight of the forum rules and expectations.

Both of these are absolutely true.

Well, I do also agree with this.

In fact, I nominate Redbaron to take my place. Legit.

Though I also feel Hadoblado, Trebuchet, EyeSeeCold and Hawkeye have what it takes as well.

This is legitimate. He de-admined himself. I don't know why as he did not give us a reason. Possibly it was in a moment of self doubt. We have reinstated him though as we think he is perfectly capable of continuing on as admin.

Re: Brontosaurie's ban

The madmin aren't completely sure what is going on. As THD already stated, he acted unilaterally in banning Bronto, and then later regretted doing so. We've since lifted the ban.

He is also apparently taking some time off from the forum. The mods would like to apologize for the disruption, and we're working on understanding the full picture. However, we felt for the sake of transparency to provide some semblance of an explanation, which you are all fully entitled to.

Re: Brontosaurie's ban

Good point, didn't think of that.

I can not find the posts. But it used to be on the moderators. That each moderator stood on their own, and made their own decision, and took the fall if in error. There is some fairness in that compared to a group against one. This here banning felt real. Newtons third law in play. I found it refreshing, even if I am against (perm)bannings /close minded principal. It's like a duel, where only one have a gun. Not really sure what I feel about that. Other then perhaps, not enter a fight against a (wo)man with a gun unarmed

Yes. Rules are pointless if they make no sense. Maybe things have changed, that it is no longer one moderator on her own. I think there are positives and negatives with both systems. QC should in any case be to the villagers advantage.

Re: Brontosaurie's ban

Someone tell HabitatDoctor there's no need for him to feel insecure and he has done an acceptable job as admin thus far. For the most part when someone is accused of administering an undeserved ban there's some outcry but I've rarely seen the ban overruled on the same day... Yet, I don't think anyone hates him and he's still an interesting & well respected member from what I can tell. And if he needs some time off to recuperate he is allowed that privilege, but the important thing is that no one hates him (if I'm not mistaken).

They take the shape of whatever the mind desires them to be. They might be contagious. In which manner is a mystery and adventure that remains to be experienced and explored and possibly exploded.

Uh... wth did I miss?

As far as policy goes, I think as a rule of thumbs* a mod should avoid issuing disciplinary action in arguments they've been a primary participant in, just to avoid any obvious bias (i.e., uninvolved mods should log in on the decision), but otherwise.... whatever.

*because two thumbs are better than one, especially if you are eating a Christmas pie
