Hello All! I just jumped right in to some of the discussion boards and forgot to say hi first. Sorry about that.

I'm INTP, 26, female. I have a hundred varied interests that I will get bored with very shortly, so I won't bother to mention them right now.

I've been a lurker on this bored on and off for several weeks now, so I figured it was time to jump in.

It's nice to meet all of you!

I'm not sure if I'm scared or interested...;)

to further the creepiness:

Psychological studies cite references that fear likely increases hormones that increase attraction and pleasure in females; hence taking a girl to a scary movie, or for all of you Halloween lovers, a haunted house.

References:

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=scared horny

When one is so afraid and experiencing so much fear that their scared emotions get all mixed up and the end result is extreme horniness with fearful shaking and or crying. Or, when one is so horny that they find themselves absolutely terrified of everything!

"Claire couldn't stop the shaking in her legs... she didn't know if it was the fear... or the horniness. Yes, there was a murderer in the house, but she hadn't gotten any for a whole day and while she was afraid for her life she had that insatiable lust; there was only one explanation: she was scared horny."

stupidity level > creepiness level: achieved.

I can see that, to an extent - your heart is pounding, your on edge, and there is someone RIGHT THERE that could 'protect' you (or you could trip them and run)...arousal could be achieved.

But I'm having a very hard time imagining any woman going 'STOP! Wait right there, mister murderer, before you slice my throat open, I really, really NEED you to bend me over this table and take me in a possessive, caveman sort of way! Please! I won't beg for my life, but I will for this!!'

Although, to each their own, I guess...

Other than rain and getting raped by muderers what are some of your interests? Mine tend to change from week to week or even day to day.

Also, here is your Homing Kitty: :cat:. (He's like a Homing Pigeon but smarter and not so damn cheery.) Treat him well or else.

Thank you for the Homing Kitty. It's a fine gift, and he shall be treated with respect.

My interests also change with alarming frequency, but I don't have much time right now to spare for them. I'm working to put myself through college, which doesn't leave a lot of spare time. But when I do, I read. I collect books. I sketch (perhaps I should say I start sketches, but do not finish them, as that would be more truthful). I do craft projects that never come out like they are supposed to and end with hot glue and glitter everywhere. Currently, I'm reading The Elegant Universe by Brian Greene, as theoretical physics has caught my eye.

Also, I wish to clarify that I do not have an interest in getting raped by a murderer...that sounds incredibly awkward. I was simply pointing out that I cannot see anyone being so scared by a murderer being in their home that they felt an immediate and overwhelming urge to start humping something.

You just said "your" instead of "you're".

Ruined it man wtf

You're* right, dude. I did, and I am now horribly embarrassed. Haven't made a mistake like that in a long time. I'm not sure whether to thank you for keeping me on track or desperately wish you hadn't noticed it.

Thanks! It's nice to meet another pluviophile. Most people have no appreciation for the rain.
I'm telling you, when rain hits things... grass... puddles... and you stare at the contact and become entranced...

And hi. How do you survive in Oklahoma? (And are you in the wooded portion or prairie?)

Welcome pluviophile, from another pluviophile.

I see we have a few things in common like unfinished art projects, working to put yourself through college/university and Brian Greene.

What are you studying? How far are you in, and are you still enjoying it?

I present you with a Welcome Bird (bird-nerd here)

Prairie. I'm right next to the Texas border, so there's not a lot of trees around these parts. How we survive could be a very involved question...

Mentally, well, I think everyone has to make a choice when they're young. Either to leave and go somewhere else, or to plant roots and stop thinking about it. This area is not a good one for ambivalence. There's not much here besides very down-to-earth, hardworking, people or other, less savory types. If you're staying, pick one to belong to and stop thinking about it or get out. Otherwise, you will drive yourself crazy with all things in the world you're missing out on.

(And in case the question was cheeky, I respond with the fact that we all live in tepees and drink the tears of our enemies for sustenance.)

It appears I am going to be studying psychology, as with doing it online (I'm not allowed to move my work schedule, unfortunately) my options are between psych and business. I'm not touching business, so psych it is. I had taken several years off after my freshman year of college, so right now I'm in my sophomore year.

I am enjoying it, thankfully. It's strange because I'm taking a History of Art and World Culture class, which I thought would have been my favorite so far. I was wrong. It's so very, very boring. It surprised me, as I was not expecting that. I do like the teacher though - she is that kind that really challenges you. She makes you work for it, and whatever grade you get is the one you deserve. I enjoy knowing that I'm being awesome by my own merit, not because someone let me slide by.

Are you still in college/university? Was there one field you seemed to enjoy more than the others?

Also, thank you for the Welcome Bird. He's lovely, and will be a companion for the Homing Kitty I was presented with earlier.

Well, it was intentionally open-ended.

So it's fair to say that such an environment can force introspection early and thus produce individuals unlike any anywhere else? I like the dynamics of people and the complex processes that produce them, what can I say? :D

But given the reference to tepees and drinking enemy tears (neither of which I'm opposed to, FYI), are you Native American?

Hmm...that's a fair question. I would say both yes and no. It's very hard to not be forced into introspection because there is nothing else around. So for those who have a predisposition towards introspection, I think it can definitely force it to mature much sooner than in other places. But for those who are not introspective by nature, it can cause them to experiment in things/people/situations that they shouldn't, simply from lack of options.

As for being Native American, no, I am not. But that is what people tend to think of when they picture Oklahoma, and I am willing to use that to my advantage.

Why, I hadn't realized that anyone was flirting! I thought we were all being polite and agreeable as we got to know one another; I'm horrible at flirting though, so I may have missed something...but speaking of flirting, I have to admit, your post has left me a little...well, breathless.

I've been thinking about it all day since I read it. I had no idea there were people of your...loquacious talents, for me to talk to. The thought is rather titillating. You're more than welcome to slip a message into my inbox any time. I think you would find me most receptive to your advances...for further conversation, of course. ;)

I'm not touching business, so psych it is. I had taken several years off after my freshman year of college, so right now I'm in my sophomore year.

Sounds familiar. I tried to study internally, but due to busy work schedule have had to go distance/correspondence for my last subjects. I find this extremely difficult as I'm an auditory learner.

I think it can be beneficial to take a break between studies sometimes, if only to finally come to the conclusion that one has taken the wrong path.

Do you know what kind of direction you want to take with your degree yet?

Great that you are enjoying it still :). A teacher can make the most boring of subjects interesting though, what is your History of Art/World Culture teacher like?

Spoilered the next bit as it's mainly me-stuff.

I did the same as you with a subject I thought I was interested in. I re-entered university thinking I wanted to study biology; did a couple of bio subjects and was quite bored. Took a couple of geology courses and absolutely loved it; the geological time-perspective in particular helped me considerably as a person prone to the whole depression/existential angst-thingomahusy....weird. I also enjoy inorganic chemistry/analytical chem, so thinking about combining geology/earth sciences with ecology (my major) and chemistry, somehow....The problem is I tend to become very absorbed in whatever subject happens to grab my attention. It could be dependent on the smallest factor. I had to write a report on some threatened animal, and got sucked back into the whole biology/ecology thing. But geology and chemistry are my main interests. I also read physics literature (QM/QED/QFT) as a hobby....and I'm slightly obsessed with different concepts of time.

I'm nearly finished with the bachelor. I'm supposed to go on with honours studies, but there has been background drama going on lately, so I'm considering a break.

Also, thank you for the Welcome Bird. He's lovely, and will be a companion for the Homing Kitty I was presented with earlier.

Yes, taking time off can be a good thing. I simply wasn't in the right frame of mind; I had went through some traumatic events in my senior year of high school that affected me rather badly, and since I didn't know what I wanted to do anyway, I simply put it off. Thankfully, distance learning works for me. I'm a visual learner, so it's much easier than being in a lecture hall.

As for direction, I'm leaning towards psychological experimental research. It's a very open field with a lot of room to explore and move forward in, it works with my strengths, and avoids most of the things I don't like. There are so many possibilities to explore about why people work the way they work, socioculutral effects, nature vs. nurture, etc. Since I have to go with psych, I might as well make it work for me.

As for my teacher, I like her personally, but do not enjoy her methods. We read chapters and listen to her presentations, which is simply her re-reading the chapter, and then throwing in extra comments that are not in the book, but that we will be tested over. So we are forced to listen to her repeat information we have already learned, simply to make sure we don't miss something she has thrown out there. They are usually around 2 hours long, and we have to listen to one every week. It's a frustratingly huge waste of time.

Yes, I know what you mean about having a fascination with time. Physics is a love of mine. There are so many theoretical possibilities - it's limitless. It's one of those things I continuously come back to every few months. Unfortunately, I tend to really get going, and then come across a theory or idea I don't quite understand, so I'll lose all momentum and have to take myself back to the beginning and go over everything again to make it all fit together in my head, and while ruminating over it, I get distracted by something different.

I think it's that I'm fascinated by theories. I have a hard time articulating exactly what it is that draws me to them. Maybe it's a simple as the fact that I like conjecturing on how the universe works and what my place is in it.

Thank you for the elephant. I'm going to have a menagerie before too long!

I agree that it is a wonderful word. I love languages and how certain words sound, the connotations from them, how their meaning can change depending on how it's said.

I am extremely fond of the sea also. It's beautiful and terrifying, which is a rather potent combination.

Wait people are flirting without me  (I didn't notice flirting either fyi) Don't fear Lot I'll keep Proxy for myself anyway.

Ok flirting initiated. Welcome *Dashing smile* I find your name fabulous. I too enjoy long walks in the rain as they calm my sensitive heart. I... like that red shirt of yours. It really matches your brown hair. Although the picture is bad so it might be simply a black hat. I'm glad you joined us and I am always curious of people which have only existed for two weeks. (ok this is getting boring I'm off to find Proxy)

Welcome ;)
